About the Play

Caliban’s Dream is a 20-minute movement-based solo performance incorporating text from Shakespeare’s The Tempest. I created it shortly after completing a run of Shakespeare’s play, directed by Jim Wren, at Lenoir-Rhyne College, where I was Artist-In-Residence in the fall of 2006. I played the eponymous “Caliban,” and found that I wasn’t quite “through” with the role (or it with me) by the end of the run. Through December 2006 and January 2007, in the cold early mornings, I created and rehearsed the piece in Bryson Gym at Warren-Wilson College. The piece premiered as part of the Asheville Fringe Arts Festival in late January, 2006. I have continued to perform it in various venues since.
